the stock airbox has no restrictions at all. and the aftermarket will give no additional hp or torque. the only time you need an aftermarket intake is if you upgraded your turbo for bigger boost.

search? but yea... aftermarket intakes isn't really necessary... just go with a drop in filter... it's as good as an aftermarket one... that's what i did with my IX...

I am not sure there are "no gains" as there are a number of posts here that show dyno sheets with gains on the VIII... I can't imagine the IX would show no gain (on a dyno), I mean it reacts so well to other mods so go figure. I think Al posted something yesterday on a drop-in versus the BR intake and showed a fairly large difference.
In saying all that I went back to the stock air box with the Works drop-in filter as it is nice and quiet and really seems to work really well. I am not one for a loud BOV so I removed my RMR intake... I also think the cooler intake charge may actually make a difference on the road versus the cone filter on the dyno where the hood is open and possibly a fan is moving some air. I thing this is a big point of contention here on evom among the tuning groups...
Seems to me that a cone filter on the road with the hood closed would have to ingest a much warmer charge versus the stock box with a drop-in and I think that would make the numbers much closer. Perhaps if you used one of the cold air ducting ideas or enclosed the cone filter like some have shown recently it would help.

It's not a bad mod, but it's certainly not as important as you think it is. It's one of the least useful mods possible on the Evo. You need tuning way more than you need an intake, unless you just want to make sound. This is not a Honda...intakes are not important on the Evo.
