Rod Knock? Motor going out? My luck BLOWS!! HELP!!

Yes, it is me again, and YES I discovered another problem!! I had my oil changed and ALL the fluids 2 weeks ago, getting ready for the Winged Warrior show, and all the local promotions which go with it. And of course a Dyno with Shiv!

2 neighbors stopped by, and I offered them a ride. we drove for 5 miles, and we started to hear some "knocking" under the hood. all gears, but intermittently. (every 5 seconds, or when I pushed on the gas.

Once we heard this noise, we pulled over, popped the hood looked normal/smelled normal, but on occasion, we could hear THUD THUD, like a rod knock. We limped the car home, another 3 miles. The noise didn't get worse, but it didn't go away!

I popped the hood in the driveway, and there was 1/8" of oil on the dipstick. WTF??!! How can I go thur 5 guarts of oil in 2 weeks, and 300 miles?? I have NO leaks, no burning oil smell etc...

I then went to get oil, and put 3 quarts in it 45 minutes later, and it appears on the stick, like I am 1 QUART OVER!!! I Started the car, and gently revved the engine, and the KNOCK IS STILL THERE!! is it ROD KNOCK?? Is my motor shot? I will not drive it till I get answers on to what you guys think my problem is. You have been there for me before, and know you will tell me what the heck I did.

Could it be the clutch? I thought I could make it go away when the noise started, and depressed the clutch. but then again it didn't all the time!!

Help a brother out!! I can duplicate the noise with oil in it now, and in gear with clutch in, or in neutral with clutch out. sounds like rod knock to me. It really only is noticable when I give it gas!! not really at idle!!

From your descriptions, you DO have rod knock. Sorry to hear about your misfortune; at least you get to build it now. Good luck.

I could touch the cam cover (and did), and it seemed like the car "slowed down". How could that show up after 30K miles on them? good point though! this sounds worse than that though!

o no sorry for that but you must check if the noise is coming from the oil pan you can lift the car and hear the noise under it

you would know if its rod knock...

pull your oil filter, cut it open.

that will tell you.... bronze shavings...

hey, do a 2.3

Should I drive it 5 miles to the shop? Or call a rollback?

just do it yourself. you dont have a floorjack?

at the least you can drain it, put the filter...

if its the rod bearing, get it towed anyway. if not, fill her back up...

maybe when they changed the oil they didnt fill it up correctly and better get a rollback you dont want a piston to open a hole through your engine.

So if I cut the oil filter, and see copper shavings, then just replace the bearings and rod bolts? can that work? If I see NO shavings in there, then what?

do you think it could be the radiator fan hitting on something?

Thanks! So if I tow it in, they can "repair" this problem, or will it entail a complete rebuild?
