Buschur Air Filter Kit...

It's pretty easy to solve the debate if this air filter helps at all. David Buschur dynoed his Evo with the factory air box, and then took JUST that out and put the air filter on. He gained 4whp and 7ft/lbs of torque, just doing that. Dyno numbers are hard to disprove there.
So, in closing (no more arguments about cold air intake, this isn't one of them), it does help a little, and sounds way cool. Good spending of $80 if you ask me.

Installed my Buschur filter kit, here is a pic. I will be getting my Pruven BOV tomorrow hopefully, and will post pics tomorrow. The filter kit is just as Fireball described...i love it.

o00o, did you specify what type of shipping you wanted? IF you didn't they will ship it standard, which will take most likely about 5-7 days i think. i asked for 2 day, and got it 2 day, but it cost me 35 bucks.

Yeah, I installed mine and had the same problem with the plastic.. Damn Red Loctite.. however since this thing came with no instructions.. let me recommend a few things to anyone installing a filter (as if this isn't already obvious) Unbolt the two bolts that hold the air-box in so you can move it around a little, Unclamp the the (air) sensor, disconnect the cable, and cut/unclip the nylon wire clamp that holds the harness to the air box.. and take the WHOLE ASSEMBLY out, to break the threadlock without breaking the plastic, try to give the nut a quick turn to break it loose, if it doesnt break loose easily, it will break the plastic 'slot' that holds the anchor of the bolt in place... Don't even attempt to try to remove those nuts with it still in the car, its just going to frustrate you.
BTW, I fabbed up an aluminum air guide to duct air from the stock fresh air horn, onto the air filter.. Its not totally enclosed, but it should allow cooler air to pass over the filter. Not to mention most of the area that this filter falls into, gets alot of air passing through from under the car.
Truth is, aside from the annoying BOV sound, I don't feel much of a difference in performance. However that is no surprise, its such a negligable gain, that it may only be of a benefit if there are other mods that require more air into the engine.
My only complaint about the buscher air filter is its not anchored to anything, I made an L-Bracket to hold it in place from a piece of aluminum.

also be really careful when your handling the sensor.. The "grille" at the front is to vector the air correctly so the air volume can be measured by the turbulence (Vortex or venturi acceleration??) caused as it passes by the sensor element to determine air volume.. Removing or damaging that will confuse the computer's ability to determine air requirements.
Since it doesnt appear to be a hot-wire sensor, oiled K&N filters in close proximity to the sensor should not harm anything.. But don't take my word for it.. If your not sure you want to take that chance, wait it out...

According to AMS's tests there was a 20hp loss when putting on a K&N cone filter in place of the stock box.. However, when they installed the Apex'i S-AFC and tuned the air/fuel, the end result was that the K&N filter gave a 4whp and 7wtq gain over the stock box...
So.. don't do this mod until you've got an Apex'i S-AFC installed (and know how to tune it).. unless you don't care about losing power, as long as you sound cool!
Personally, I had a K&N in for a while, and it really felt like I lost a lot of power!.. especially in the low range..
I think the stock box will stay on my car for while.. until 4whp gains are important to me...
I'm more interested in the 51-53whp gain that you get from the SAFC and a MBC pegged at 19-20psi!.. and the 20-30whp lurking around in the exhaust system!
