cam smog legal for CA
Whats the largest cam that I can still mess with enough to pass smog when I need it to? Also, how much will a larger turboe... if the boost is turned down effect my ability to pass... how big is too big with no return?

The only things that I KNOW are legal are WI setups (no alky), larger intercoolers (CARB doesn't consider them an emissions related device) cat-back exhausts and pre-MAF intake filters.
Just about everthing else is "illegal" if the guy sees it. Fortunately, in my experience, the only guys who really give your car a close inspection are the Test-Only guys. So as long as you have a visible (and not obviously modified) cat and you past sniffer, you're usually OK. But, it's still possible to get nabbed ... especially by the Fuzz.

Well I passed smog at a "Test Only" Station with the mods in my sig (WORKS 269 Cams) I put the stock catalytic converter back on and it passed with flying colors. Actually it was kinda funny, it was an older guy at the station so I dont know if he even thought about it having a cam, but he asked why I was smogging it and I told him because im selling it. Well as the car sat there at idle you could hear it loping and he was like thats good your selling it, it doesnt sound like its running right, I was like yeah thats why im selling it
Anyways just thought Id add that since I had the same concern about smog but it passed easily, I think even a bigger turbo shouldnt affect it much.

thanks alot guys... helps alot... when thinking about buying a car form out of state the last thing you want is to get it here and have to destroy it in order to pass smog. Its a much bigger problem with v8's with power adders. Superchargers are hard to hide (harder than turbos's) and most of them have big fat 49 state smog legal stickers with a warning NOT LEGAL IN CA. I am thinking just throw on a new cat and a stock catback and turn the bosst down as far as I can (the way they test it the turbo prob wont even be in boost anyways on a gt35r lol). 880's are my only real weakness... I am actually going to be running the works 269's exactly so thanks!!!

Pretty much any state that doesn't require a sniffer test you can pass with as large of a cam as you want because all they do is hook the OBD-II machine to your cars ECU and as long as your not throwing a code you'll pass.

thx for the reply tripperfx3, but I remember when I went to inspection they give me a print out of my smog results, and I am pretty sure they did the sinffer test.
Anyone is NJ pass state inspection w/ aftermarket cams?

If you can watch them (which is law that you can) just see if they stick it in the tailpipe for sure. Also you just put a cat. on, go and get the test. If you fail than you have one more chance you don't have to pay for.

Really? what kind of 272 cams do you have, cuz one of my friends almost passed with HKS 272's untuned and I've got brian crower 272's and I think that I'll probably be able to pass cuz the bc cams don't have as high of a lift than HKS I think
