mobil 1 vs. mobil 1

Even if the oil is good for 15,000 miles, I´m not so sure I´d leave the same oil filter on there that long, if it was my car. I feel more comfortable changing the filter every 2,500 miles. Or is this overkill?

The extended performance is great for a non-turbo car, but turbo's do nasty things to oil, even synthetics.
The very small clearances and high heat and RPMs inside the turbocharger just tear the oil molecules apart (well the chains of molecules). Basically, that's why we change oil to begin with. Over time the long chain molecules of oil break down into much smaller ones, which are thinner and don't coat/protect the moving parts as much.
The turbo really speeds this breakdown process up due to the large shear stresses in the oil passeges there (mostly from the small clearances and high rpms).
Their super-syn might work well in turbo cars, but I would never go over 5k for a change, regardless of what the manuf. says. If Mitsubishi started validating Mobil's claims, then I might consider lengthening the interval with the new oil.
hope this helps,

Is the other one is better? I dont know and it probably doesn't matter because I change the oil every 1500 miles in the first place.

totally agree with chain scission/viscosity break down. Also there are combustion by products that linger in the oil.... change mine every 3K to 3.5K on my evo8. On this 9, i barely broke it in after 2 months, live 1 mile from work:P
