Thing about fasteners and the way they work is they are designed to provide their rated clamping force just prior to yield of the metal itself. This will allow the fastener to retain tension at it's maximum without risk of yielding (or surpassing it's ability to resist stretching, in which case it then either breaks or over stretches and looses most of its clamping ability). So you can see why fastener manufacturers have specs for torquing different sized fasteners of different materials, and with differentlubricants. If you go ahead and torque and stretch that fastener much farther than recommended, then you stand the chance of ruining the fastener, and may not even detect it till the engine gos...
