Re: 4G63 forged Stroker kit
How come the toda kit only cost 3200?!?! I heard the jun kit cost around 20k, and you have to send in your entire engine for rebuild?!?!

You "could" just send your EVO 8 4g63 block to one of the DSM shops that are doing the stroker motors... that might be cheaper than some of the alternatives.
EDIT: To clarify, I mean have them do the work for you since they would know 4g63s

The TODA kit is pretty crap, look at the rods and the crankshaft.

ahh. very intersting.. sorry if i seem incompetant but stroke kits are very new territory for me. Claudius would you recommend this as a good path to take to upgrade the engine. Is it reliable or does it affect the car as a whole. Also my evo is my daily driver, what effects benefits and cons are to using a stroker kit.

You might wear cylinder walls faster since the rod is rotating at a steeper angle & pushing the piston harder against the walls. Also you have a 'deeper' hole to fill air with so you will need to port your head. Also you will need to fuel the engine more. Whew!! - The list goes on....an engine is an air pump, so you will need to make other parts of the motor more efficiant to realize TOTAL uncompromised gains! Just my $.02c of pure FACT!

Cons: will use more fuel, costs a lot

Just curious how much power you think the stroker kit added on its own. I wouls assume that the porting of the heads would help, but that a bigger turbo would be the best answer maybe a HKS 37 series. Also, what engine management did you decide to go with the larger injectors since you are running so much boost!

wow, that's really good investment consider only 5k is invested.. I am just wondering Claudius, do you hear anything regarding the tomei stuffs?!?! It seems there is very good reputation for their parts... great job on your car!! planning to upgrade those injectors?!

Stroker kit is roughly 10% worth of an improvement in torque and power. With my current boost, rich AFs and mild ign timing, the engine makes 410 ft/lbs and 410 bhp on stock injectors at 92% DC (I know, I know ) with a Power FC.

You guys with EVO VII and VIII shouldn't really have to worry about lowers internal until 500+ Earlier models: EVO IV~VI have weaker pistons and rods (450+) my EVO is the weakest of them all 400~430...is the power range to start worrying about changing internals(lower) In fact, the HKS EVO VII was running with a stock internal for long time it had aftermarmarket cams and sprockets w/ 3037s turbine. The cams were 272 ex/in, upgraded inj. 800cc, Bosch fuel pump with relay. All the parts were HKS of course.... EVO VII-VIII guys/gals if you just can't help yourself then mod from top to lower...(cam, inj, head work)older models work the opposite way, bottom up PEACE
sidenote if you do decide to go stroker, keep it under 2.2l anything more is too much strain on the components and block. JUN is the best but very expensive.....Tomei is good but they recommend doing everything with THEIR trained mechs...which means sending a engine in.(they have warranty for complete engines but not individual kits) Also they push using THEIR ECU and no others PEACE
