Exedy twin howl/whine when clutch engages
I just got the twin HD installed, and I'm still breaking it in (about 400 miles so far). I'm hearing two different types of noises -I think one of them is normal, but I'm not sure about the other one, and would like to hear some experienced opinions.
The first noise is a little chatter when I release/disengage the clutch while shifting. I think is completely normal.
The other noise is a loud momentary whine or howl at the moment the clutch grabs as I'm raising the clutch pedal. It only happens when the clutch engages a little harder than normal. For example, it happens when I downshift, or when I'm stopped on a hill and then proceed to go. If I rev match while down shifting, or upshift nice and easy, it doesn't happen. But if I upshift a little harder than normal, it will happen. I haven't launched on the new clutch yet, but I'm sure it will happen then too.
Can anyone with an exedy twin disk chime in?

The howl is normal. My HD does it occasionally. It seems to go away with the more mileage I am putting on it. That or I could be getting used to the engagement. I've noticed your seating position is important when dealing with this clutch. I would try different positions in the seat to you feel combatable with the engagement. Also, the more you let it slip the more noise it will make.

Hmm, you should hear a tilton decel noise. Kinda sounds like the tranny is going to fall out. Annoying yes, but funny at the same time. Let off the gas next to someone with their windows down and look at their face.

The noise is most likely gear lash in the transmisison during the deceleration. The lower inertia clutch is probably causing it and creating the increased noise. The 6-spd in the MR may not have as much gear lash as the 5-spd, and may be why it is not heard.

I have the same noise on my Exedy Twin disc. Funny thing is that it did it with the stock clutch too (reason why I replaced it with a twin disc at 9k). I now have 31k on my car and the noise is still there.
I do agree, if I try and launch the car, the noise goes away for a day or so, then comes back. My Ignalls Stiffy helped lessed the noise just a little.
I'm just taking it as normal.
