drifto,

My exact point is what you just said. The tires are a huge weight problem. I got light wheels but went to a wider tire and almost lost all the savings I gained.

Atleast it wasn't compounded by heavy wheels. I'd bet slicks mounted to those wheels would make a bigger difference in power than the rotors.

My 255/35/18 Michelins are 24lbs. Most tire weights can be found on tireracks web page.
Yeah, I'm cognizant of this, so it's also important to me. I mentioned in one of the posts above that my weight savings may be nil due to the 275s, but after checking the Tire Rack, this is what I get:

1a) Kumho Ecsta V710 245/45-17 (currently using on MR BBS rims) = 25lbs
1b) I also weighed this combo at home (tire+rim) on my home digital scale = 42lbs (pretty good, since the rims are 17.7lbs each)
2) Kumho Ecsta V710 275/40-17 (will use next on 17X9 rims) = 25lbs (same as my current tires, so I lose nothing!)
3) I weighed a 10,000+ mile stock Advan in my garage = 23.6lbs (lots of tread gone, though)

Doesn't look like I will add much, if any weight with the 275s, so if I can reduce weight with my 17X9s, I'll be in great shape.

Would be nice to see the dyno gains (if any) for other rotational weight saving parts, such as a lighter flywheel/clutch combo and a carbon drive shaft.

I also remember a post a while back when DYNOFLASH weighed the Baer brakes and had a couple for sale, he might know the exact weight.

Great find

I want a LIGHTER rim than my stock BBS's along with significantly lighter brakes for the reasons Dave has illustrated.
are you selling your stock bbs rims??? what condition are they in and pm me a price.

I have a set of the BBS wheels here if someone wants to make me an offer. I will have to check what kind of shape they are in. I think they have a set of fairly worn Hoosier's on them now.

I checked my old records (i have a long list of parts and their weight) and found the weight of the front baers to be 15.8 / rears are 11.7, but i am not 100% sure, i got it off the board a while back.

This checks out with what I found as well.
Dave, I guess there is no need to weigh them if you are getting a set. I hope my scales were correct.

Evodan, I didn't plan on selling them. I love my BBS rims and would use them as my daily drivers, then relegate the Rota Torques to winter duty only.

Mine aren't mint anyway - they've seen a buttload of racing.

I'm not surprised at all. Someone I knew lost 8 whp because the 18s he put on his RSX weighed a few lbs more than the stockers. The wheels I put on my DSM were one inch larger dia, 1.5" wider, and weighed about 6lbs less each. Friggen stock rims on that car were ~ 22lbs.

Pretty cool test, none-the-less. Nice to see some concrete numbers from a reliable source.

21 pounds sounds a lot better than 14.9 but it sounds too good to be true. I don't know where you would find that much additional weight without sacrificing something.....

Like double cheeseburgers and great Texas buffets. Man, I got about a 1/10 of a second in "fat static mass"
