02 housing/sensor problem...

I dropped my car off Friday to have a 10.5 hotside and a 02 housing put on. The shop called and said the 02 sensor was practically welded to the 02 and it would not come out.

He checked a price and the new 02 will cost me $289. He sells PLX widebands with a gauge for $300. Instaed of having to buy and install a stock 02 sensor, can I have the wideband put in the 02 housing and be fine?

If not, then I'll just buy me another 02 sensor, but I figured this would be a better way to spend $300 since I prety much have to....

Thanks....

I've seen that happen quite often. I don't think you can put the wideband o2 in that location as it won't be accurate. From what I've read, it needs to go right before the cat on the downpipe. I've heard you can get a replacement o2 sensor from www.oxygensensors.com for under $80.

Wideband O2 sensor is too close to turbo in that location. It may overheat the sensor. It needs to be right before cat for heat purposes. See if you can get a used one.

Did they heat (not too much) the sensor bung? Wrap a rag soaked in water around the sensor to disipate the heat when heating the bung. Did they use a pipe on the wrench to get more leverage? Use PB Blaster to penetrate the threads.

He's gonna try to get the 02 sensor out again on Monday and see if any methods work. If he can't get it out, I'll possibly be posting for a used one.

Thanks....
