My soon to be for sale used AMS 3071 kit......crazy spool up....I was still on stock internals, and yes it does hold crazy boost to redline. PM me about it.

Yes, the 50 trim wouldnt spool anywhere close to either of those turbos listed.

Neither would the 3071 - claiming "crazy" spoolup on a 3071 just isn't right. IT would be nowhere near a TME. The 20g-9 is a good turbo, but it's not a choice for great spool and torque. The best choice is a TME (maybe IX TME, but I haven't seen results from one yet).

You might look into TurboTrix's 20g kit. Its a bit on the pricy side for the power gains, but the quailty and spoolup would be second to none.

Just an idea.

^ Being that a evo IX turbo can make within about 15-20whp for about a third of the cost, I think the power-$ or pound in the case of the thread starter would make the IX a much better choice.

I agree, the IX Turbo, or a Ti/AL variant of the IX turbo is your best choice..

If you are willing to sacrifice a little spool, then the BR 20G-9 is the second best..

If your looking to make significantly better horsepower numbers at the cost of spool, then you should start looking at some of the larger turbos, but all of them spool a bit higher than stock. In reality its not "That Bad" but it does take getting used to, and if you need a car that has instant boost (Road racing, short track, that sort of thing) then stick with the stocker or something based on a stock turbo.

I wouldn't omit the HKS GT2835 from this pool of options either. It's a little on the expensive side, but it's a fantastic little turbo. I have one waiting to go into my EVO once I recoup some/all of my investment on the 2-DIN conversion I recently released.
