From page 5. Nowhere have the rules ever stated that the Stock Appearing class had to run a stock MAF. They do say that the stock air box can be cut up on a 1G DSM and speed density is O.K., that a 2G can run an open element filter with no box.

The rules have had to be made looser over the years to keep people participating. To expect a 20 year old car to remain completely stock looking is retarded. I have allowed FMIC in stock appearing classes this year too from all the complaints. 1g and 2g DSM's didn't come with FMIC's but it is so common now and with the EVO coming stock with them, we have changed the rules to allow them as long as no cutting of the fascia was needed to get it to fit.

I wouldn't say I tailor this event and rules to fit my Staged upgrades. First off, just about every shop and their brother has COPIED our Staged upgrades so it wouldn't be just our parts. Second, every other guy out their refers to his car as having "Stage 1, 2, 3 or 4" on it when it has no parts from us. SO if anything, once again we have set a standard that people go by even if they want to use knock off parts to copy what we layed out. This means that anyone can build an EVO modified to the same degree using anyone's knock off parts.

The idea behind the stock appearing turbo is to keep the build cost fairly low. Granted my RS is a money eating machine, the average guy can still do the same mods and end up just about as fast. Trent's car is a great example. With all the time, effort, tuning and money I have spent on my car the best it ran with a standard 20g-9-5 turbo was 11.11 at 124 mph. Trent has gone 11.20 at 122 mph with a stock engine, head, intake, throttle body and very-very little weight reduction.

Dave, what do you think that the 20g 9-5 is capable on a flashed evo 9, cam, intake, TBE, MBC? Would you need the upgraded actuator or will the stock do fine? Looking at 91 and 110 tunes for road racing. Thanks in advance for the answers

With just those few parts on an EVO9 you'd be wasting your money if you upgraded the turbo. There are other parts I'd do first. Fuel pump, front mount, upper/lower i/c pipes. Those would all be money better spent at the point you are at in your mods.

AEM EMS on Trent's car.

By the way I have been accused privately of changing the rules in Stock Appearing to suite my RS. I do not feel this is the case as I have explained. If it is true then I guess I changed them this year to suite my 1G AWD too, wait, I DON'T OWN A 1G AWD, so that rule change must have been to just keep up with the mods that the majority of people are doing THE SAME ****ING WAY THE CHANGES TO THE EVO STOCK APPEARING CLASS WAS!

Douche bags, that has become one of my favorite desciptions of some poeple now-a-days.

Have a great day fellas. My niceness only lasts so long when being accussed.

If you have a proper running EVO, atleast Stage 1-3 and a fuel pump on the car and you add the EVO0 2-g-9-5 to it the gains on straight pump gas at low (20 psi) boost is minimal. We see more cars break 300 whp on our dyno with the 20G than without but the gains at that boost level are maybe 10-15 whp. The turbo really shines at higher boost levels that you see running alky or race gas. Then it is not uncommon to see 30 whp increases expecially in the upper rpm's.

Most EVO's with a reflash and stock turbos on our dyno cannot hit 340 whp, very very rare regardless of the other mods it has. I have seen quite a few hit 365-375 with a reflash.

Trent's car with the AEM just made 390 whp/410 ft lbs for example. Trevor J., Jarrod H., Chris P., are some others that I have tuned with the AEM and have also made 370 whp+ with the turbo.
