I have seen it twice on dsm cars. People change their own timing belt and dont know how to set the tensioner correctly. The belt jumps on the exhaust side but not the intake. I have seen the belt off 4 teeth on the exhaust side on two cars without hurting the valves. When you advance the exhaust cam you only increase piston/valve clearance.
