intake without tune safe?

Im looking to purchase an 03 evo, the modifications are as follows:
HKS type 1 turbo timer
HKS EVC
HKS racing suction kit
HKS downpipe and carbon Ti exhaust
Helix HFC
DEFI gauges...EGT, boost, oil temp.
Tein type flex with EDFC

My evo owning friend says that running an evo with an intake and no tune is dangerous and shouldnt be done for any length of time. I was wondering if there was any substance to his claim.

I drove the car and it has felt fine to me and is being checked out by a reputible shop in my area.

Thanks for your help
AJ

Well did the previous owner have the car tuned and never disconnect the battery afterwards? If the ECU has been reset I'd personally make sure they toss you the stock air box and fit that in. Unless of course you're ready to go for a tune a week(AT MOST) after you start driving it. Also I wouldn't recommend to go WOT many times until you do as well.

I upgraded my intake and a TBE with MBC and havent gotten a tune yet and dont plan to for about another week or two, I dont drive the car every day but I have driven it a bunch of times, its not a huge deal you will run a bit lean, its not going to damage anything, I am not sure what your other mods are going to be or if you want to race the car so you can always get an SAFC instead of a tune and then you are good to go.

Exclamation

JDM ******........Tune is not must for good intake.Tune can make full use of your intake capablity.Your exhaust is not a true 3".I reccomend BR or JUN BL with TTP Engineering Downpipe + Resonated testpipe or Megan.Boost to 21.5psi + tune=Fun.Note:Boost up only after tune.
