I have an Evo IX that is 4 days old, on the third day it began to make a clicking noise that appears to be coming from the alternator. Once the car is warm, it goes away but I can't stand the noise. Plus, it's brand new...has anyone had alternator pulley issues or bearings?

Thanks.

If it's the same grinding noise that I had or heard near the pulley then it's the alternator. I thought it was mt TC or something else but the bearing on the alternator went. The alternator still charges but the bearing was shot.

Start your car and place your hand on the alternator to see if you can sense some vibration or see if the noise dampens.

I've got the same problem. Coming from the crank pulley. Only happens when I push the clutch pedal in. I think this may be a little different from what you are experiencing. But I got the noise too. Sucks!

i have this noise too. it's not a consistent noise and will go away sometimes so i know if i bring it to mitsu they'll say they can't recreate it cause i can't even consistently get it to happen. i figure eventually it'll get bad enough to happen consistently and i'll be able to get it fixed. it's more of an annoyance/embarassment than anything though

My dad took the car to the dealer yesterday and it turned out to be the alternator belt, apparently it was a little loose. The mechanic had a timing light on it to see if he could spot anything "off" with the belt. The noise is gone now. Also, a buddy taught me to place a metal pipe where you think the noise is coming from in order to amplify it...try it because it helps to pinpoint the source.

If the noise returns, I'll report back.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one with this sound...

Also get this Grinding Metalic Sound from the Pulleys on idle.

Think its possibly one of these:
- Idler Pulley
- Noisy Crank Pulley
- Cam Belt Tentioner
- Balancer Shafts Out of Phase
- Maybe even the Alternator belt

Can hear it on idle - clearest through the wheel arch. When driving and at high RPM I cant hear it at all... Buts sounds scary at idle sometimes.

You guys think there's any danger if I drive it hard like that? Noise only started the weekend...
