I only heard leaded gas messing up O/2 sensors & cats that’s why I don’t run one. I have ran so much race gas or leaded 110 and it has done nothing but burn up my O/2 sensor. My car runs assume with it. The O/2 problem was fixed by running a NTK sensor for the front one & I did a O/2 simulator for the rear. So turn up the boost and run all you can afford.

However, I don't know why these guys are freaking out about leaded gas. Yeah, it kills the cat, but he has no cat. The stuff about killing the engine and injectors is overkill. I've used leaded gas many, MANY times for racing and will continue to do so well into the future. When given the choice, I take 104, but most times leaded is the only option.

NI, I've never heard of nor seen 110 unleaded. Are you sure it's unleaded? I had always thought the highest possible unleaded octane was VP109.

Tripper, using race gas does not randomly make an boost controller spike.
I realize about the boost controller it was just a weird thing that happened while he had the leaded gas in the tank. As soon as he was on empty went and filled up with regular 93 and it didnt happen. Cant really explain it, but it happened none the less. Also what ive ALWAYS heard is that leaded can screw up the injectors and engine, but like you said that may have been in only extreme cases (full tank of leaded in a car made for unleaded or something like that), but it wasnt really discussed. I was just going on what i learned. Thanks for the correction though.

I've been running 110 leaded mixed 60/40 w/93 (=103 oct)and zero issues. The shop I use told me that they run it very frequently in several of their cars (Evos,Supras & a Skyline) w/out any issues other than an o2 sensor occasionaly.

I've never heard anything about it harming pistons, valves, injectors, etc. Would any of you guys who posted same care to elaborate, or is this mere speculation as I suppose?

I don't know who started the rumor that leaded fuel messes up valves, but the truth is in fact the exact opposite. The leaded gasoline is actually beneficial for the engine. It will however mess up the cat and O2 sensors, but I htink this takes quite a while.

dsevo,
that's exactly what my inlaw who's a chemist told me, and if I'm not mistaken the lead provides lubricity and helps protect against detination too.

+1
I run C12 in my bike ALL the time. It has never ever had an injector problem, or engine for that matter.
Just your o2's and cats will get detroyed over time. The lead will help lube the valve's and also help prevent detonation

I used leaded race gas in my 240sx all the time, used it in my Vette on one occasion too. I am using it on my EVO as well. It will clog the cats (if you have them) and over time can destroy 02 sensors.......but other than that it's harmless.

This is why the internet sucks sometimes, people spouting off that leaded gas damages the pistons and internals?? What a stupid comment. I suppose all the big time Supras/Vipers/Vettes running 110-C16 are all blowing up their high dollar built motors right? Oh well. /rant off

I have run C16 in my car ever since I bought my Evo VIII (for racing and tuning only). I usually use NM 91 **** gas to daily drive. It only messes up your O2 sensor and cat, I have only O2 sensors and no cat, so don't worry so much

i have stoped reading this thread at this post. first off your post b4 this one is not correct. you will not clog or harm anything other than your cat running leaded gas once and awhile. and secondly, u turn your boost all the way down to 14-16lbs on 93???????? wtf? i run 23psi daily on 93 with AFR in the low 11's, tuned of coarse. i think u are unsure about what you are talking about and guiding others in the wrong direction.

Leaded gas can only f up O2 sensors and cats, nothing else.
