If you run to redline in first and then let off the gas you will get a louder thump than if you do a fast shift to second and keep everything loaded. The rear diff assy seems to be moving around because of the change in loading, and the greater the change, the more movement, the more thump.

Try this, When shifted out of first, and going into second, give it more gas than you usually do before letting the clutch back up.

Ya its normal, a good rule of thumb is when you're shifting between gears (especially 1st to 2nd) wait until your body weight shifts from being pushed back into your seat to forward toward your steering wheel and engage the clutch at that point.

I get the "thump" if I let the clutch out too fast when shifting from first to second.
