Evo 8 to Evoi IX motor swap completed today at Pruven
Just wanted to share some info on a car that was completed at Pruven today.
It was a 2005 Evo MR that was changed over to a IX motor, stock IX turbo and a 2003 5 speed trans.
Tonight, I completed the tuning on the car and the swap went through problem free, its bascially a bolt on affair with no wiring needed as long as you have the ecu and wiring harness.
The car picked up a solid 30 whp and TQ over where it was as a Evo 8 with this transplant.
I don't think this conversion if for everyone, but if you can find a IX motor and ecu at a decent price and sell your Evo 8 engine then it may make sense to consider.
I can't post the dyno sheets as this car is a race car and the tuning specs and a/f etc are a something the customer does not wish to disclose.
If any one has any questions about wiring details or any other facts of this conversion feel free to PM or email me,
AL
PS - Big props to Kenny and John at Pruven for doing such a great job wrenching on this special car.

but the IX engine is a lot more responsive to mods compared to the VIII
MIVEC is nice =)
i wonder how much that guy ended up paying (minus the money he got for selling his VIII engine and trany)

This is good to know. There was no reason it couldnt be done. Once the IX engines are a little more available...I would consider this swap. I dont get why the AFR's would be a secret though. Jesus...we all know what these cars run and what is optimum. Dyno sheets arent going to show timing values or any other data. You can print them without the AF curve as well...

peak vakues maybe. but the area under the curve i think is better, slightly quicker spool. the mivec helps..no question about that. The oppurtunity would have to be there..meaning a great deal on a 9 drivetrain/ecu

Hey i just stumpled onto this thread. I have the oppertunity to buy a used evo8 pretty cheap. But I really want the evo9 motor swap.
Now that this thread is about 2 years old, has this been done more often? is it a popular/easy swap to do now-a-days? thanks for the help

i have an 04 raliart, but im trading it in for an 03 evo8. just want the all wheel drive. So if the evo9 motor fits in easy to the evo8, thats awesome, great news for me anybody know what exactly is needed? Is it just the motor, ECU, and wiring harness and thats it????
