For those using synchromesh.

I dont know if this is old news. I just called the folks at pennzoil to ask them about their synchromesh gear oil. The guy that I talked to stated that he cannot recommend the gear oil in any other vehicles than GM based and Some chrystler based FWD tranny cars. The gear oil is not GL-4 rated he said it was actually a motor oil with an additive. And he said that it dosnt even come close to the weight specs of our specified gear oils. I dont know I have always run GM synchromesh in my dsm's and GM synchromesh is made by pennz. I am just worried about running it in the tranny. I just bought 3 qts of it too grr. 1-800-458-4998
that is the number that I called to get the information. I am sure that people are using it without any issues what so ever but with all of the new info that I have on it Im not so sure its the right thing to run.

Been using the synchromesh forever on the DSMs, and been using it on the Evo. Plenty of people I know have been using it since 03...... still going. I've used both and can't tell any difference between the two, except for how much more the BG costs

The synchromesh? It says so on the bottle, but I've always gotten it at Autozone. It's like 2.99 a qt.... dirt cheap and easy to get.

The GM synchromesh I use is straight from the GM dealer and is $11 a quart...It is what the Corvettes have from the factory from what I hear....38,000 miles with it on an ACT 2900 clutch with no issues with the tranny except for an occasional high rpm 4-5th gear grind which strangely has disappeared recently. Currently this batch of synchromesh has 18,000 miles on it. I think obviously won't hurt to try it. I have heard of people putting in a quart of shock proof with the rest being synchromesh and having great luck with better bearing protection...I may try this next change...never hurts to try. It is the only real way to figure out what works for you

I recently switched from being die hard sycromesh user to royal purple 80/90. Royal purple works a good bit better. And I know it protects the gears better.

Yea but then you have to wait for it to show up in the mail. I would rather cruise on down to autozone...........

Syncromesh seems to work good at first, but I think it wears out too fast. Good thing I planned on switching. It was cheap and easy to get, but I might try the Royal Purple.
