Which is not the case here, sounds like he's leaking oil from the head. What you wrote shows your leaking "mechnically disabled" from the head
Ummmmmmmmm...no, you are wrong. Oil CANNOT leak from the exhaust studs. If you have ever removed one of the exhaust studs you would know that it does not run into any oil galleys. I have taken apart many 4G63 heads. I accidently drilled too far into a head once (exhaust stud broke off) and it actually drilled into a water jacket, not an oil galley. You must be smoking some awesome ****!

i have seen this quite a few times on multiple different engines. Most of the time it is nothing to worry about at all. Alot of times when people remove heads or just replace headstuds a minimal amount of oil can seep out before the head is torqued back down, which over time as most people that have seen with oil is that it will thin out and coat a large area and stay there for a really long time. All it looks like to me is an oil film that was left there from the head job. I would not worry about it too much. But you never know. That is just my two cents. But I have seen this alot.

Nah, dont smoke. The EGR system taps into the exhaust port of the cylinder head to the combustion chamber from the internal port within head which may carry oil vapor in addition to the NOx the system is trying to recycle during normal driving. Since the EGR system is closed under boost, trace amounts of oil may find it's way eventually to one of the internal stud threads and is superficial. Usually this occurs after someone dicks around with the exhaust manifold breaking the factory thread compund seal

Sorry for the double post but to illiminate confusion, this (above) doesn't look like the case with the pic in post 1.

I'm just explaining how oil can wind up between the ex manifold and head

Sometimes I find oil behind my ears, in my computer, and even under rocks too! Damn stuff gets everywhere!

The picture below shows the passages to the exhaust studs that may leak - case closed

You put the UV oil dye in with the engine oil. You turn out all the lights in the garage, and let the engine idle. Take out your favorite black light and shine it in the suspected area. Motor oil will show up as bright neon green or neon orange in the black light. If it is leaking from the headgasket, you will see it with the blacklight. If it is leaking from the exhaust studs (*giggle*) it will show up in the light. Give it a shot! The dye costs $6.99 at autozone...

looked like you installed headstuds with the incorrect one by one way instead of pulling the head off and changing the head gasket.
