HELP!!...why does my evo keep spiking?

sup guys, i'm new to the site but i already got problems, here goes the situation.....

i just bought a used evo a coupla days ago, i fixed all the minor problems with it but when i accelerate too high my car SPIKES....like hard, it keeps jerking whenever i hit the 20 psi mark on my boost gauge, it will keep jerking everytime i hit it, but it doesn't happen in first gear and my friend said that i spit flames and that thick black smoke completely covered my rear, so thick that he couldn't see my tail lights...neway, i think maybe that its dumping too much fuel and i should get it tuned, but i'm not sure, you guys got any input????

Lousy boost controll setup, materials, and install. Black smoke can happen at high boost

Is the car throwing codes? Definitly get a flash done. A flash is what they call tuning your stock ecu basically. Someone might have had mods on your car and had it tuned for them. Then just yanked them off. Just a guess though.

technically a stock ecu will boost to 20 psi ( or 20.5 to be exact) then spike to 22 or 23 then taper to 16.5 ( 25 is wayy to high). Yea but its not suppose to jerk and flames are not suppose to be visible ( a lil black smoke is ok).

But yea someone must have modded and yank the mods off, i dont think the ecu is reseted to stock.

A mail in flash is like $200 I think. I would do it. Check out Dynoflash's website or his forum on here. The first modifications should be a mbc, drop in filter, tbe and a flash in my opinion.
