Not doubting your results in any way what so every Dave, I just don't understand how adding an AEM can magically gain HP. if the AEM map had timing @ 16* by 7k and the A/F is the same number in the stock ECU the power should be pretty much dead on.

wrxkilla,

I am saying the exact opposite of what you are accusing me of saying actually.

My point of the post was to show this particular customer does NOT have all our parts and that it is a combination of all different manufacturers AND it made some big numbers.

As far as the load scale etc. This would be a concern if the tune wasn't perfect. The AFR's looked like a flat line you drew with a pencil. The tuning was not the issue.

Just curious but what do you think was holding you back with the stock ECU? I know the AEM has a huge advantage when it comes to fine tuning but was it anything in particular?

I guess we can just agree to disagree.

I agree with you 100% about you being able to make more power with an AEM, but is that because you are familiar with the AEM and not the stock computer?

Unless you can give a specific reason as to why the stock ECU is a limiting factor, anything you say is just your opinion.

On the stock ECU, did you rescale the load axes? Did you change the knock filters? The stock ECU is only a limiting factor if you don't use it to it's full potential.

But, I will agree with your that the stock ECU is difficult to make a lot of horsepower out of, at this point in time. More work is being done on the dissssembly and pretty soon, the capabilities will rival that of any stand-alone, just like DSMLink does with the DSM stock ECU. Work is being done so that live tuning can be done in RAM, and even custom code can be implemented for extra features.

But, anyway, I don't want to argue with you, Dave. You have one opinon and I have another. Unless there are facts behind them, they are just opinions....and you making more power with the AEM isn't one of the facts that I am talking about.

l2r99gst,

I actually agree with you whole heartedly about the OE ECU and David's familiarity with tuning the AEM. However, once again this thread is going off track. I do believe this is an excellent topic though. It just needs to be addressed in it's own dedicated thread.

Zeus,

I have a concern that the AEM vs. stock ECU WON'T be addressed if moved to a different thread. Having this slight tangent here is kind of like a forced Meeting of the Minds. I for one, am looking for a clear reason on WHY the AEM made 40+ more hp and torque than the ECU.

No, Zeus is right.

These threads get off topic too much. And I was one of the offenders. Enough from me.

I don't mind threads going OT as long as it is still techinical material and not BS.

That being said, I found 5 mph in the AEM just playing with injector timing. I'm still 3 mph shy of my DSMlink traps, and I feel the rest of the power still lies in the injector timing. If it doesn't I'm at a complete loss. Ignition timing, AFR, boost, etc all remained unchanged between the two runs, and I made them back to back since I can switch between DSMlink and AEM in less than 10 minutes. If the track didn't close for the year that particular night, I would have gone back to the stock injectors (~98% IDCs on race gas IIRC. Close to 100 at any rate) to take injector timing out of the picture to see if that's where the rest of the difference lies. At this point I'm just about tired of assing around with it, and I'd pay Dave to tune the car just to see WTF he is doing differently, but alas, 700 miles is too far to do more than once a year (DSM Shootout).

I am not here to argue about it either. I knew posting the ACTUAL results of a test, would once again, have me catching grief from someone. It's all good in the hood.

Bring me your expertly flashed stock ECU on a car with any turbo larger than stock and let me install and tune an AEM. If I don't make more power I'll pay you $100 and take the AEM back off.

You want an answer why the AEM makes more power, I'll give you one, just cause I like to see people argue. The MAF sensor was taken off and the car was swapped to speed density. There's my reason

I've encouraged someone to start another thread on the subject... trust me, I WILL get exposure.

Well I am a little disappointed in these results. It looks like the 20gLT was only good for an additional 20-10whp over the 20g9-5 on a pretty well setup car. Adding c16 and the aem throws any back to back right out the window. The question is what would have this car made with the 20g9-5 and c16 tuned on the AEM? I pretty much had the same question in my mind with curts car. It went 10.59 at 127 on the 16g, then 10.5 at 129 with the 20gLT. The question in my mind is what would curts car have done with the 20g9-5?

As far as eliminating the mass at these HP levels there is no question there is gonna be an increase in HP from less restriction. But all of the gain here is skewwed as too many factors were changed. I think the big difference between AEM tuning and stock ecu tuning is not getting A/F curves right. Its all about good timing curves. Its much more difficult to get good timing curves with the stock ecu. That I believe is where the power gains are coming from.

Keep in mind I tuned this car yesterday with the stock ECU and C16 PLUS I used alky with the C16. Today I left the alky kit off and still made 40+ whp and 40+ ft lbs. So the tests were back to back with the stock ECU vs. AEM EMS.

I don't think this car would have made 380 with the 20g-9-5 and the AEM. Trent's car is about the same as this and is also one of the fastest 20g-9-5 cars out there. He has run 11.2 at 120 mph driving the hell out of it. His car made about 390.

i def think this turbo is a good upgrade, but i took the evo9wr to 7.30at98.5mph in the 8th, do you think my car will run as good as yours with the lt and say run 7.0at101 in the 8th? is 3mph worth 1700, that is the question i keep asking myself! my stock ecu seems to be doing fine with my set-up and im sure i can get this turbo and take them both into the tens!(with jestertunnings help )
