Unhappy Boost problem :(

Hello everyone... I have a 2003 Evo with a K@N drop in fliter and a Turbosmart Dual port bov (Not recirclating) its 50/50...I got it as a cheap price....Anyways... i have a few problems...One problem is that before when i Had my leaky stock bov when I use to start my car it well full boost right away, with my new bov now my car has to warm up then it well full boost...Anyone know why? my other problem is...it only boost's up to 1.2 bars when my gauge goes up to 1.5, I dont remeber how much bars it went before on my stock one, but wut i do know it use to leak...so how many bars am I suppose to be at full boost? on a stock 2003 evo? and is it normal for my car to warm up before it allows me to go full boost? it well go half boost intell 3 minutes of driving...Help plz...I looked for this problem on the forums i dont think anyone has the same problem...thanks all for the help

1) Your only problem is your lack of understanding of the Evo and thinking that because the Turbosmart BOV was for a "cheap price," that makes it ok to use and vent 50/50

2) Stock boost is only 19.5psi peak on 03s, which is less than 1.4 bar. Some boost more or less than the standard. If you didn't ever notice how high it went before, then that just makes no sense to now complain that it's too low. You don't even know if it changed...

3) How do you know the stock BOV was leaking? Did someone tell you that? I went 12.22 on my stock BOV - it works fine on a stock car. Unless it was broken, it was not leaking.

4) Um, you better thank your lucky stars the ECU isn't letting you hit full boost when the car is cold. Why in the world are you trying to boost when the engine is cold? That's a good way to blow the motor, and you are really lucky the ECU is smarter than the driver. It should not hit full boost until the car is warmed up.

No, I have an 05 VIII that came with the plastic BOV like you.

Your friend did not "feel" the stock BOV leaking - that is total horse crap. Do you find it interesting how I guessed that someone "told" you it was leaking? That should tell you something. Set the Turbosmart to 100% recirc and stop messing around. It does you no good venting, and it's really not useful at all on a stock Evo.

Does your BOV have two nipples, no pun, but two places to connect vacuum/boost tubing to?

Yeah i have the 2003... Well the guy that told me, owns a shop so I took his info from him....Maybe warr is right.... I can go 100 recirclate on my bov if i want...I have the block off plate...but that not my issue...cuz my car has no idle problems or problems with that...And its not 100 vented...Well it does, when i HIGH boost...but i can make it recuirt if i let off the gas slowy and not fast....So basically if i want that noise i can make it, if i dont i can make it not do it....But i dont care for the noise...I had a srt4....I got the bov cheap and got it cuz it alot of people told me about it.....I read that a 100 vent bov is bad...but this isent a 100 vented...so thats why my car never stalls or ever the needle moves lower than idle RPM's and my gas mileage, i cant tell a difference...people say u burn more rich? well that is probley true...but since its 50/50 u dont burn so much as u would do with a 100 vented... u got me off topic warr...But yeah guys, you think its probley cuz i am leaking boost and my ecu is not boosting high boost cuz its cold? i live in AZ its hot here lol

i am sorry guys that if i sound like a total newb I just got into this and been trying to get all the info i can, i dont want to do anything wrong with my car without knowing it from you guys, Warr knows his stuff so i take his info very well, but man can u be easy on me a little bit? lol

We don't think; we know. The ECU has a built-in safety feature that limits boost when the engine is cold if you are still using the stock boost system.

Lp, I am one of the people that has proven the stock BOV leaks at 13psi or so, but that isn't what we're talking about. Just saying it "leaks" doesn't do it justice. It is not very strong, but the stock BOV works perfectly fine on stock boost and no mods. There was no reason for him to get an expensive BOV (everyone justifies getting poor mods by saying they got it "cheap") while venting 50/50.

I read that a stock evo max boost is 19 psi, and u said it leaks at 13? but u said it holds fine with no mods, Well at 19psi i would think it wouldent hold, and thats stock... i am confused lol

03 evos won't hold 19 with the stock BCS.
It will spike it there then will fall to 16 psi. Your probably not hitting peak boost because of your drop-in. More air read by the MAF will lessen your boost.
You need a boost controller MBC/EBC to hold boost better. Also need a tune to get optimal power for your mods. Boost leak check is a must before a tune.
100% recirc is the best no matter how cheap you got it.

Yes, you just don't understand what "leak" really means in this case, which is why you believed that guy who claimed to "feel" it leak while driving then bought a BOV whose purpose is to make noise even though you don't care for the noise.

I dont care for the noise..I care about if my car is screwed up...Venting 50 wont do anything but cause idleing issues which mine doesn't....Do u know how much psi turbosmart dual bov hold? I just want it to hold it for my need, thats all i am worried about...I listen to to many people...Maybe i should do wut i want...I have a aftermarket warrenty, If my bov doesnt anything horrible to my engine I can swap it out so fast to the stock on in minutes, and then tell the dealer the stock one killed my engine LOL....but I dont want to do that...but hey who cares right? dealer screwed me anyways with the price, why not screw them back Also they charged me a aftermarket warrenty without knowing..how gay is that? 1,500 warrenty, HA!
