Anyone running a NON ball bearing 50 trim?

I know that Buschur is going to make a kit, however I have a non bb Turbonetics 50 trim with a .48 hotside and before I build a kit for it I would like to see numbers other people have put down with this setup. Thanks guys, and please no posts trying to tell me that BB is better, because I know that.

Buscher made it sound like bb or no bb is not a big difference. I would guess the numbers should be the same

From my understanding, the BB option in turbos doesn't add more power but helps spool time.

That is true, peak HP should be the same, I am just wondering about spoolup. I would like to see if anyone has a dynograph to compare the BB to the non BB. From what I have read BB sounds a little overrated.

Why such a puny hotside? Or are you consciously giving away peak hp to make it spool faster?

I bought it cheap with that hotside. I plan on changing it to a .63 when I can find one for a good deal.

there will be about a 400rpm spool difference. its the tip in and transient throttle response along with response between shifts that the BB version will truly shine. Not to mention the durability of the bb CHRA compared to journal bearing CHRA. The BB will handle abuse alot better and last longer. You can't go wrong with the price of the non bb's but dont' think your getting the same thing or that a bb turbo isnt' worth it...

Thanks for the info. I def agree that BB is better, however, being a poor college student with car payments every month I cannot afford one. I also am not planning on keeping this turbo on the car for a number of years, so I felt that a non bb would suit me best for the time being. I just am looking forward to building the entire kit. Ill def post pics if I deside to take the plunge.

I dont think its going to make a huge difference in spool expecially since you have the .48

The journal bearing 50 trim has a hard time surviving in high boost applications. They have been known to fail prematurely for no good reason at all (on DSM's). There is a big difference between the ball bearing and the journal bearing 50 trim but you will have to decide if the $500.00 price difference is worth the extra reliability and performance. To me, the quicker spool and added insurance of the BB is worth it.

What do you think is the ideal A/R is for a 50 trim running on a 2.0L Evo 4G63?
