Code PO230 Engine Overboost problem

Hey guys,

I got a problem with my 03 Evo. It kinda stals at 5000K-5500K RPM's. It keeps going until it reaches 5000K, stops - loud pop comes from exhaust and then keeps going. The car doesn't feel right. It does it sometimes, I'd say 2 out of 5 times when I push it that far. Last time I pushed it to 6000K rpm's it didn't pop, but check engine light came on. It gives me code 230 saying that Engine Has Overboost Condition. (I run 20 psi)

Any ideas why it might do that or what needs to be done to get it fixed?

Thanks

are you sure your running 20 psi??? typically boost should taper when you reach high rpm...theoretically your running too lean at this rpm, which is why you hear the pop out of your exhuast. did you get a flash?

No flash, and it's 20 psi, but it goes up slightly at higher rpm's. I've got MBC

Goes up at higher rpm's.... that sounds backwards.

I'd think there's a lean or overboost issue with your MBC and Intake combo - being that you don't have a tune for either.

Either way, I'd back down the MBC. Did it recently get colder in your area, cause you'll boost higher in colder weather.

It did get colder, but started happening about a month ago. It does happen though in bad weather, like rain or when it's kind of cold. But no one ever heard of that code. I was told that with MBC it's normal for boost to go up about 1 psi at higher rpm's

like everyone else is saying, get a tune asap.what gauge are you using? i would go over all of the boost guage connections to make sure it is reading correctly. when you set your mbc, you did set it for 20psi in 3rd gear right? hopefully you arent boosting 20psi in first or second

I'm boosting about 20 psi in second. But as I reach 4000K rpm's it goes up slightly

set the boost correctly. your boost should be set in third gear while at wide open throttle. until your tuned i would turn it down to 19psi.

You used all new vacuum lines puting the boost controller in i hope....the pills in the stock one might make this happen.....just a thought

You might want to get a flash or get that thing tuned....get the Eflash cable for 89 bucks and buy a 50 dollar tune....honestly you cant go wrong

had one evo guy do it. I'm sure he did his best. I turned down boost to 17-18 psi, sicne it's winter anyways and the car will only be driven once in a while. So far the I had no problems, I erased the code and it did pop up anymore.

Thanks for your help though
