Tranny and tranfer case rumor
Does anyone know if our evo tranfercase and tranny is weak?
Just wondering cause i was told by an x evo owner he blew the tranny twice...

our friend lol.... and to somewhat answer the question... the drivetrain in the 03 seemed to be a little weaker, i have an 06 now and its holding up just fine

it all depends on how it was taken care of. usually the 03 and 04 8's were weaker in the Transfer case due to the front diff being open. eventually, after many a hard launches, it begins to whine. gets hella annoying.
mine was doing it, so i sent mine to shep to get built. i think i would have done it anyway, as its usually a weak point on awd cars, especially if you frequent the drag strip. i had my tranny built too, but that was holding up perfectly fine before i had it built.

Why do the axles need to be changed when changing from AYC to a conventional diff? Since the AYC pumpkin is larger the axles are shorter. You wil also save weight by changing to an RS setup because you will be able to remove the AYC pump assembly.
