So why not E50, E75 or ethanol BUT E85?

In cold climate areas they are actually running E-70 in winter (the E-85 pumps say minimum 70% ethanol on them).

The reason is that it provides the best compromise between cold start capability, fuel milage, and low use of petrolium.
