Post FYI: front speaker sizing

I just removed the right front door panel to figure out exactly what size speaker will fit in the door. I measured mounting depth with the window down, and the depth is to the window itself, so obviously allowances will have to be made for clearance. I'm assuming the driver side is probably just a mirror image of the right, but I didn't actually measure it.

Here goes:

EVO 8 front speaker size

Hole diameter: 5 31/32" 150mm
Pre-drilled mounting holes: 6 7/8" 175mm
Mounting depth bottom: 2 3/8" 60mm
Mounting depth top: 2 3/4" 73-74mm
Mounting depth right: 2 1/2" 63mm
Mounting depth left: 3" 76mm

Mounting depth above surface of factory speaker: 3/4" solid, 1" including foam

great info!

were you able to fit 6.5" speakers in the door?
I would like to go with Boston Pros, but they are so damn deep that I might be forced to go with something shallower.

I didn't actually try to fit any speakers in the door. I was just measuring first to see what would fit. The hunt for speakers comes later. I would imagine 6.5" to 7" speakers would fit fine, although depth might be a problem and you might have to fit a spacer. The aftermarket speakers I've seen aren't as tall above the mounting surface as the factory units, so raising the height by 1/4"-1/2" should be well within factory speaker tolerances.

The car accepts 6.5 inch speakers in front and rear. You will need spacers for premium speakers.
