If I need a custom tune, one option would be to get the local tuner here to set it up on ECUTek (no one here does it on ECUFlash), and have that be the end all of my power mods.

Still not too late to get the HKS 272s. Do you reckon they will be much better?
I agree with sparky on cam selection. Tomei 270 Procam may be too much for the street, without fuel and ECU upgrade (minimum.) I run mild Tomei 260 Poncams with TME RS 10.5 turbo on the street. It's okay ... but I want more.
Even so I use ARP conrod bolts & headstuds and Walbro 255 for insurance.

IMHO it's still a little anemic above 6500 rpm with stock gearbox and 4.53:1 final drive ratio. MUCH quicker with original 4.88:1 final drive.
Unfortunately not using that gearbox on the street, only for AutoX.

Try for "balanced" combination of parts for better performance and reliability.
e.g. ... I'm building upgraded engine/box combination for AutoX... (with 4.88:1 box)
Forged 2.0 pistons and conrods w/ EvoGreen turbo / Water-Meth kit / upgraded fuel etc.
That's the one that will get either the Piper "Ultimate Road" or "Rally" cam kit.
The Rally has less duration but equal 11.5/11.5mm lift to your 270 Procam.
Maybe "hold" your Procam 270's until you upgrade fuel system and add EvoGreen turbo.

My $0.02¢

Hey, thanks for replying to this. I think I will need more time to study cams more.

In the last 2 weeks, I've learnt more about the 9.8T and why it was used on the MR RS 5-speed models. Apparently, the gear ratios get the most out of the 9.8T and not the 10.5T (which is why you never find 5-speed models with the 10.5T turbo).

For now, I may just look to get the Evo IX O2 housing from the 10.5T to help turbo spool. I can get the housing for free, and labour is in the region of US$200. I could either do that, or get a Megan Racing / ebay O2 housing for another US$200.

Are any of you guys running the IX or ebay O2 housing with the 9.8T turbo (which I believe was standard on the 03 models)? Did you notice any significant improvement? Did lose low-end torque? More importantly, why would you recommend or not recommend it?

Not quite true. used 10.5 with a 5-speed in E5 GSR and RS, E6 RS, E6 TME RS.
Never driven 6-speed so can't comment on differences in turbo response due to extra gear but with lower 4.875:1 final drive in 5-speed the car is TRANSFORMED!

The milage is worse with '4.875:1' but the difference in "feel" (acceleration and throttle response) is remarkable. It makes you "grow horns" every time you drive.
One day I'll build another 4.875 box for street use.

IMHO your "butt-dyno" isn't going to feel much from an O2 swap only; so do it during EvoGREEN installation. For O2 housing, I got Buschur stainless-steel, ceramic coated
(e-Bay?) housing during the sale when I bought the EvoGREEN turbo. Not installed yet so no review available. The O2 was $200 too.

BTW do a search for the Buschur thread on O2 testing. Best R&D available so far.

says in my owners manual that my final gear ratio is 4.529. How did you get it up to 4.875?

Good point about the used of the 10.5T on 5-speed machines. A 10.5T upgrade might be worth looking out for, along with an eBay O2 housing. Thanks

Ahmm... I'm not saying to get a 10.5. You'll soon be dissatisfied IMHO. I am.
Add the EvoGreen, injectors and reflash at least.
It will give you more headroom for future mods like cams.

BTW the 4.875:1 final drive ratio was an OEM option for JDM and UK E6 RS models.

An OEM option? That means that there has to be a part number for it and any other parts of that option. Does anyone know what it is? It would make an interesting upgrade...
