There is no worry, the injector wiring harness will hold the motor's weight.

Here is a trick that I do on my DSM's:

1.) Get a low profile scissor jack.
2.) please the jack in between firewall and engine block
3.) place pieces of wood on both sides of the jack to prevent marring
4.) Jack the engine AWAY from the firewall

Doing this will allow the tranny to swing clear of the subframe.

Like I said, move the engine forward.

I was just joking around.
I've done plenty of clutches on other cars but not on the Evo.
It looks to be a humbling experience to say the least.

we do remove all of the motor mounts, and support the engine on a jackstand, and use an engine hoist with ratchet straps, so we can use the straps to angle the tranny however we need too!

I always remove the radiator when i do work on the clutch, trans, or turbo...

the 6 speed is a bit of a pain...each time we do it we go... we need to remember that trick for next time.... then we forget what we wanted to remember hee he

just take ur time, watch the retaining clip, and have an extra set of hands.

Ive done 3 EVO 8's trans take outs on lifts. Two of them were the dropping the subframe way. I found out later that most fast paced shops pull the radiator allowing the engine to be pushed for for clearance, thus you will not have to drop the sub frame.

When i do them, I drop the subframe, much more room to work with...

Taking out the radiator and removing the two front studs for the driver side mount for clearance worked best for me. Got to do it twice when I realized the inner pressure plate ring popped off in the beginning. Just make sure the wedge collar and TOB hook up right after getting the input shaft into the block.

how difficult would it be to drop the subframe...Only issues i think will come up is the alignment after disconnecting the steering system.But dropping the subframe will probably allow your engine to sit at its regular angle and it will be much easier to actually take a tranny jack and jack stright up and slide the tranny onto the block ( there would be no prying and trying to make things clear.

funny thing is, without pulling engine forward or removing subframe, i know the trans can go in, in as little as 5 minutes. i know because after spending 1.5 hours trying to put it in, i hooked it to my engine crane, and in a last ditch effort it went straight up and in. its trying to remember the proper orientation from clutch job to clutch job that gets the job from 15 hours down to 4... now if only i could remember

no need to take the subframe off on a 5 speed. take the front bumper off and go in from that driver side. You should have plenty of room.
