I see a lot of people selling 264 in/272 ex. I only have had my evo for a short time so I am still a little retarded when it comes to some things. Is this a good set up and why?

Question

Interesting!

To be honest... It took me a heavy MIVEC change (Thanks JB) and EX Cam Gear adjustment to produce some power. My DLL with the BC280s and with OEM cams showed some improvements from OEM to BC. However, my clutch is about to be gone and right now it is not a good comparison. I am pretty sure that I am short 15-30 HP due to the slippage.

I doubt that you will not see any gains with those cams (272s and 280s) over OEM with a safe tune. However, all cars are different and I have seen cars that are tune to its max (after extensive fine tuning) that adding a different part may cause loss of power or no gains at all!

I would like to hear about their setup used for the test!

From my personal experience I would not even get those cams. I bought a set and well after the installation and the first run with the crower cams they broke. Now I heard at that time it was a bad batch and well I was trying to get a replacement and lets just say it took forever to get it replaced. The bad thing was they sent me wrong pair. Customer service is not that great. Just my thoughts on that.

Currently running the BC 272's with BC springs, retainers, e.t.c with a Shearer GT30R turbo kit. Car idles like silk, runs like a champ, and even passed the state inspection with no cats! I absolutely have no regrets. As long as you're not throwing codes, you should be fine. However, I'm in Texas so I don't know if it's the same in your neck of the woods. I don't have any dyno graphs. It was street-tuned by AMS.

What about state inspections on BC 280's?

How high a rev can you go before it starts dropping off?

had these cams for 5k+ now no problems rev'd them to 8k a few times, datalog showed bout 350ish whp still on stock turbo with 20psi+91 oct. with good timing, you can get them for a really good price but never heard anyone use bc's on a 9, heard some vendors claim 40 whp on a 9, I think I picked up like 30whp more than anything else, idles ok just like stock and not as lopey in my opinion, most people don't even know I have cams they say it sounds stock to them

I know that is an old tread but for those running the BC 272's are you using stock or aftermarket cam gears? if aftermarket cam gears what do you have them set on? thank for any info.

u don't really need cam gears to run these cams, you can tune the bc 272 to idle like stock with the oem ecu, I just left my cam gears exactly the way they were
