individual cylinder knock retard

J&S is coming out with a knock control that will detect and retard individual cylinders.

Seems like a step up in performance tuning to be able to maximise ignition timing. If one cylinder knocks it retards that cylinder a set amount and then tries to up the timing after a certain number of rotations.

One of my concerns is how it will interface with the stock knock protocol. Although if the unit is error free the ecu could be tuned to leave some of the timing corrections to the J&S unit.

What do you think?

Autronic also has this feature on their newest ECU. I think it's SM2 or SM3 or something like that..

Not really what you're looking for, but I figured I'd mention it..

In practice in the past the J&S has sucked horribly at detecting "real" knock. It was good at pulling timing at the wrong time but bad at pulling timing at the appropriate times.

The stock knock sensor is insainley accurate at detecting real knock. Learning to play nice with it has always been the best bet for a street car. Some of the offereings from AEM that can be adjusted are acceptable for a race car on race gas but have a lot left to be desired in a real street car.

some day not to far off it will be a real deal though.
