Broken balance shaft belt=OUCH!
Well I was driving my car the other night and was in the throttle in second gear at about 5500rpm when the engine did a quick rev and died. Well turns out the balance shaft belt broke and wrapped around the crank gear and caused my timing belt to slip about 3-4 teeth on the crank. So i replaced the all the belts and tensioners and also the crank angle sensor and checked the compression.....which was better than when i checked it last month. This time I got an even 170 accross the board, last month when i checked it I had a even 155 accross the board. Which leads me to beleive i was off a tooth last month. I figured that sense my compression checked out ok that my head and valves made it out alive. Which by the way the car only has 34k on the odometer, so check your belts!!! Does anyone have any imput on this as to why it happened or if you think my head would be ok with a 3-4 tooth timing belt slip. Thanks

PS the car drives great now and even feels smoother than before this happened. It idles great with no weird sounds and there is no spitting and sputtering through out the rpm range. Oh and this happened when I was out for a quick drive at 1am in the morning. I had left my wallet and cell phone at home by accident and also I was in shorts and a tshirt. It was cold. Luckily some nice guy in a truck stopped and gave me a ride home. Although he did not let me ride in the cab with him, i had to ride in the bed.

it sounds like your head is fine. A compression check should show damage, which it sounds like your check is ok. I think you're good to go.
At 34k on the odometer, I would assume you're still on the original balance shaft belt, and belt tension set from the factory. Unless the tensioner slipped, you must have gotten a sub par balance belt from the factory. Did you replace the belt or have it done? Did anyone notice if the tensioner slipped?

^+1 I would do a leak down test to make sure I think you are fine and you are definetly lucky. but do yourself a favor and do a leak down test. Reasons for the belt snapping. At 34k the belt shouldnt have snapped unless you have had the belt off and when you put it back on you tightented the tensioner to tight and over time the belt just couldnt take the stress and snapped. I always make sure that my belts are at the correct tension. Thats it :-D Well good luck....
oh could have been a little loose and rubbed up on something was it a clean break? Im assuming the belt was all tore up.
