Switching Exedy Twin Plate discs???

Is it possible to swap the friction discs around with no ill effect? I noticed that the disc that makes contact with the flywheel has worn down considerably more than the 2nd one. Can I just switch the discs around or will the different wear be an issue? I'm leaning toward doing this, I can't see it making that much trouble. Anyone know for sure?

You cannot just replace the disc's as you will have the same problem in no time! You need to replace the intermediate plate (middle plate) which is about $180. You need a new pressure PLATE DISC, not the actual pressure fingers or whatever you want to call that one, about $160 and two new disc's are like $4xx something.

I did a rebuild on my twin disc and found the intermediate plate was really pitted and the pressure plate was more than likely warped. I also saw that the disc against the pressure plate was worn horribly on the outside. There are little tabs on the intermediate plate that spring back on disengagement that tend to brake off to.

Good luck

^^Your answering like the next question (Which would be, if not, can I just replace the disc's)

But the first question, I don't know, doesn't sound like a good idea to me. Definitely ask a vendor like kf6ytc said. I don't think you can rotate clutch disc's like their roller blade wheels.

The discs are labeled as to where they are installed. My guess is that there is a reason Exedy does this. Either for balance or different wear characteristics of each plate.

Either way, whenever you rebuild or replace friction parts you should replace all of them. Just like a brake job, you don't replace one rotor or one pad. You'll end up worse than before.

Coximport.com sells rebuild kits...I think they quoted me $750 for both frictions discs and the intermediate plate.

It's not for balance or wear characteristics, but the intermediate plate and flywheel have a blue marking to line up for balance.

Would not be worth just switching the plates around with the time involved removing the tranny. Besides, I believe the hub sections are offset differently.
It would be much more worthwhile to rebuild the clutch as described above.

It's not for balance or wear characteristics, but the intermediate plate and flywheel have a blue marking to line up for balance.
Thats a very contradictory statement. The blue marks are for balance of the entire clutch assembly. They can still be lined up if you swap the plate positions.

There are different tollerances of the discs/pads. I replaced mine, and they had to mic them, to see which was which disk.
