Is this my transfer case? Decel noise
on my 03 GSR, i get a noticeable whine, only on decel. It will do it anywhere up above 30 mph, whether the car is in gear or not. I have 45k miles and the fluids have not been changed. I am installing a clutch/flywheel in a couple of days and
will be obviously changing all the fluids then, but i need to know whether i need a new TC or not. I searched extensively but couldn't find any posts that sounded like mine.
Thanks for the help

^^^^ well if it is going, it is going.. nothing you can do about it so dont worry, I would just start saving for a new one.. anyways, also usualy when they go out from what I have heard it sounds like a really loud siren..

BTW, when was the last time you changed your fluids.
If it's been more than 15k since the fluid change, I would change it with proper fluid.
While you're at it, check to see if you see a lot of metal shavings on the magnetic drain plug.

since i owned the car Bought it with 20k on the clock and supposedly the trans was serviced just before that. I'm now on 45k miles
I miss the days of owning my own lift, i was so much more diligent on keeping up with my service intervals

Well I dont think the TC has ever been touched with a fluid change because it is not recomended until 30k. I would change your fluid since most likley you are 15k miles over due.

change your fluids and see if it helps prior to the clutch job. If the noise goes away, no need to do anything different during the clutch install. If you still have the noise, then you'll still need to make a decision on what else to do.
25k on the tranny fluid and 45k on the t-case, ouch! Make sure you use the stock fluid (diaqueen) in the t-case when you change it.
