Thanks Al for this test.
Is the testing HKS system still have the 2.5" neck at the cat?
One more thing I would like to see from this test is an audio clip comparing the 2 systems. I have done that myself and WHOA! What a difference!

So if the HKS exhaust used a 3" diameter downpipe and a regular non-resonated test pipe, it would make as much power as the other exhaust.

Sounds like people should continue to buy the Megan and save ~300 bucks.

Al i would like to see how a TXS exhaust compares to the buschur. Ive always made good numbers with both my evos running the TXS. When i get the car fixed maybe ill take a trip down and we can do a test on a competely built evo...

Im sure the buschur is lighter but I would like to see if it makes a bigger difference in HP on a fully built evo..

that wasn't a very good judge of weight.....both exhaust systems were dirty, and the HKS can is bigger so it will have more dirt on it. i bet thats where the extra 20lbs came from......clean and retest.

Well....

I am pleased to hear that Al and to see that this was a good comparison between two TBEs.

I do not doubt that BR would make more power than the HKS. BTW, I have a BR TBE and my buddy has the HKS with same mods. I always run in front of him in 2nd and 3rd pulls. Maybe is the driver! ;-)

Very impressed how close the HKS was to the BR! Good informative thread!

What I did for a fair comparision was to tailor the a/f curves to be idential between the two units

When the Buschur unit was first put in it was a bit leaner on the top end

I dialed in the a/f tables 100% the same and the same timing to try and make as close a comparision as possible

You can see the a/f curves and they are nearly 100% identical

I think the reason why I did this was becuase the power was so close between the two the gain / or loss could have been explained by tuning alone - which is why I wanted the tuning to be identical

The near 9 whp gain in power in the Buschur unit up top required a increase in fuel

I hope that explains why we did a lot of pulls on this car

AL

This system had no neck at the cat I could observe

if the hks had a normal test pipe, the results would be the same.

this just proves that a 3" pipe is a 3" pipe.

It should be noted that the taper at the cat is soooo slight. I think most people who ***** about this dont even own this exhaust or have ever looked at one in person. Also, look now straight the HKS is. Very similar to the Buschur and actually eliminates one bend compared to the Buschur. I think that is why it makes good power. Some other brands have bends that do make a difference. The HKS does not.
