Rev limiter in ECUflash, stock internalled engine

I've read where some people are flashing a little higher than before with a fully stock engine + bolt ons to not rub the rev limiter in the 1/8th or quarter mile in their IX.

Stock is ~7600rpm, and people have always bumped them up to around ~7800rpm. Lately, I've heard, seen people going to 8000rpm.

Is 8000rpm OK on stock rod bolts? That seems kind of like playing with fire to me, but I just wanted some more opinions and experiences.

I know this has been asked before, but in vendor forums and didn't receive the attention it really deserved.

Yes, 8k has been done countless times. Some have gone to 8500 even, but we typically consider 8k the limit.

Thank you for the reply.
8500?! Too rich for my blood.

I remember that Works and some other vendor were saying they felt 7800 was the maximum with 100% stock internals a couple years back when we all had VIIIs. I can't remember why, though. I did a search and came up with nothing.

If 8000 is safe day in and day out for a long time, it sure would be nice.

Well, when I say 8k is ok, I'm talking about going to 8k only in 4th gear in a drag race. You only need to do it in 4th gear in order to avoid shifting to 5th, but there would be no reason to go to 8k in any other situation or gear. Regularly ragging it to 8k in each gear would probably not be the best idea.

haha, I have been running 8500 for a while on stock head, no issues...I don't suggest it for all though...and like Warrtalon said there really is no need other than at the drag strip...

Yeah Warr, I think I will exercise self restraint and leave it at 7800. This car doesn't have enough HP yet to trap anywhere near the rev limiter in 4th. If I get there, maybe I'll address the 245/45/17 tire trick we were talking about in the other thread.

Wasn't the VIII lower than the IX? My IX was 7606 IIRC, but we didn't have ECUflash when my VIII was overwritten back in 2003.

Stock is 7600 - your tuner would have no reason to set it at 7500. Do you even know where your rev limiter is actually set now? You scare me sometimes...

Noize, it's always been 7606 in stock form.

listen its either 75-7600 i know for sure. and u can ask my original tuner who supposedly raised the rev-limiter, AL.

Pruven just retuned my car but didnt touch most of the parameter because they were good. so i dont know what to tell u.

Al always raises it to 7800. How do you know for sure it's 7500-7600? Get EcuFlash, and you can see for yourself...and even change it.
