My 280 cam / tme dyno numbers

Well, i went to the dyno again, i added 880cc injectors & hks 280 cams. The cams were run @ -3/-1.

My prior run had hks 272I / 264E @ -2/0 & oem injectors

Both dyno runs were performed while using California's finest 91 octane

I know the 280 cams are too much for the oem turbo, but i am in the process of building a 2.4 & I couldnt pass up on the cam deal.

See the chart below

I picked up ~8-10whp @ 6,500, but i gave up on some torque, thats to be expected with the 280's.

The "numbers" on the graph claim i lost power, but the curve is stronger & smoother up top. That is why my original dyno run gave me 363 vs 361

My car accelerates a lot quicker with the 280 cams. My aem shows such based off of 3rd gear pulls conducted on the same stretch of private road:

272/264: 60-80mph = 1.72 secs. & 40-90mph = 4.01 secs.

280/280: 60-80mph = 1.64 secs. & 40-90mph = 3.82 secs.

if i had to do it all over again, while keeping a 2.0L engine on a oem turbo, without a doubt 272I/264E just gets it done!

Damn it i was hoping for stronger numbers....my intake temps were only 3 deg. C higher during the run conducted today vs. the original run....

Come on 2.4L

whats the advantage with 264I 272 E over 272I and 264E?

most people seem to go with a 264/272 while you went 272/264 how come?

Thanks

^ a bit better mid range......its kinda like picking the fly $hit out of the pepper, the gain is small.

the 264/272 feels a little stronger up top, the 272I/264E feels stronger in the mid range

I´m wondering how much if any, the loss in midrange torque, and the gain in topend power might be due to the fact that you changed the cam timing settings when you changed cams?

You say that the 272/264 combo has better midrange torque than the 280/280 cams, but that difference might be because you were running the more advanced setting (-2/0) with the 272/264 combo which tends to produce more midrange torque than the more retarded -3/-1? Did you try the 280´s at -2/0?

In fact, if you want the TME to spoolup faster and get gobs more midrange torque, try the 280´s at +1/-1, or +2/0. You should have much more torque than the 272/264 combo with these settings, as well as faster turbo spool.

i originally had the car set-up @ +1/-1, the car did feel any better than my previous cam set-up, up top with the intake advanced, that is why the cam made its way back to where it ended.

The turbo spooled much faster with the intake cam advanced as well.

i have data logs with the cams @ +1/-1 // -1/-1 //-1/0 // -2/0 / -3/0 // -3/-1
