Black Smoke

I have been wondering why my car shoots black smoke out the tailpipe.

I have a 05 8, intake, tbe, fuel pump, MBC, custom road tune from dynoflash. I have a catless pipe and i have been told thats mostly where its coming from but I am not sure and wanted some other opinions. Anyone? It only happens when i push it to full throttle.

I'd say it's typical of a stock evo with no tune, but not typical for one with a tune. Sounds like it's too rich, especially for a custom tune.

Black Smoke = Fuel
White Smoke = Coolant
White W Bluish tint = oil

some extra fuel will keep things cool & ensure a margin of safety. while you may be able to lean it out some to reduce smoke & gain a marginal amount of power & some turbo response, i wouldn't reccomend it unless you are familiar with tuning & have a wideband & EGT guage.

You could have a boost leak or something also, that will cause a rich condition. Might want to check that. Im running custom dynoflash tune, no black smoke

It was cars 100, the intro class to 101... 101 is where you learn how to check your oil and add more, and how to add windshield wiper fluid.

I don't know where you guys get the idea that black smoke is normal on an Evo. I don't see many on the street at WOT, but I've been to enough dyno days, enough track days to make up for that, and I've yet to see a properly tuned Evo blow black smoke on the dyno or at the track.

The factory tune is in the 9's on a/f, that'll blow black smoke for sure, but a proper tune in the low 11's for a/f shouldn't blow smoke.
