What are the 3 most important gauges?
It seems the standard is Boost, Oil Temp., Egt. I will be in the market soon and need some, what is the basis for these three or any three obviously besides boost. Where to get some as well?

boost is number one because it makes sure you running the right amount of boost so you dont overboost and blow sh*t up
oil pressure is a very close number 2 because it lets you see anytime you have low oil pressure so you can shut the car off and avoide spining bearing or blowing the motor due to low/no oil pressure
widebacd would be 3 so you can make sure your car is not running to ritch/lean

riceball's got it dead on...
Boost should've been put on the car before you had it more than a week. All sorts of problems come from boost, whether it is overboost or boost leaks.
Oil pressure is a given, but remember that the 4g63s idle at fairly low oil pressures.
And wideband is the next... With those 3, you can pretty much monitor all the things that could cause engine problems. But EGT and Oil temp are also pretty important.
The stock water temp gauge isn't great, and by no means reliable means but if it is super high you know you probably have an oil temp issue. Plus, if you have weird oil pressures you probably have heat issues.

On a bolt-on car you really only need a boost gauge?
You can get a lc-1 wideband + evoscan to log the car from time to time and see whats going on with afr and knock, but not something you have to constantly monitor....other than that you really dont technically "need" anything else. The other ones are nice to have but not all that necessary, its an arguable subject.... and its up to you to buy what you want.
