Help with 280 idle

Hey, just installed a new head, ported, 1mm over valves, and 280s, retarded 3* on both sides. Car has 880cc injectors. It's really hard to keep it from stalling. I have to play with the throttle for at least 15 seconds to get it to idle, and even that is intermittent. It will start to go rich and just die. What are some things you guys have done to get a car to idle well? I don't care if it lopes and sounds like a racecar, as long as it will idle without me having to fiddle with it too much.

Couple of things off the top of my head:

1.) What are you using for engine management?
2.) Have you scaled your injectors correctly?
3.) Do you have the correct injector latency values in your EMS?
4.) Why are you running your cams at -3/-3? I would try +2/0
5.) What RPM is your idle set to?
6.) Have you monkeyed with the base idle set screw (BISS)?
7.) What kind of BOV are you using
8.) Are you running MAF or MAP?

1.) Xede/ECUflash
2.) Car worked acceptably before, only changes are to headwork, so I'm assuming they were scaled. Shiv tuned the car before, with the xede I assumed, but when we pulled the ECU maps they were far from stock. So I dunno what he did.
3.) Someday I'll know what you're talking about. But yea I think we're checking on that.
4.) The 272's were set at -3/-3, I'll change the cam timing tomorrow and see if that helps.
5.) Target is around 1300 IIRC
6.) No
7.) Forge BOV recirc
8.) I think the XEDE runs off MAP, but I'm not sure.

Have you tried starting the car with the XEDE completely unplugged? - i.e. just running on the ECU?

Whoa! Are you running 272s or 280s? Make up your mind.

FYI, XEDE runs off MAF.

he was saying that was his settings on his 272's prior to the 280's...

its prolly your headwork thats made for such a rough idle man. My 280's idle fine. and never stall.

I was advised to stay away from Intake Manifolds, Bigger throttle bodys, wildy ported head and oversized valves, and very high lift cams while on stock ecu.

Could be, as Ludikraut says that ECU wasn't scaled for the bigger injectors. Wouldn't hurt to double check.

Ah, yeah - I should've read more carefully on the cams statement. That's what I get for trying to sound intelligible at 1am. 280 cams make better power and spool earlier at +2/0 than at -3/-3.

ONRAILS - I disagree with the supposition that the car will idle poorly with headwork, bigger intake, etc. My car idles completely stable with all of those mods and more - all on the stock ECU -> modlist
