If Deka = Braille, and Braille can power our Evos; then Deka must be good too...
I'm pretty sure it's teh same as Braille. I can take a pic for you if you'd like. My brother has one in his STI. It looks exactly the same (same body, top, posts, etc) but with a big Braille sticker on it.

As for the crank power....it works fine for me man. I've been using it for a few weeks now and haven't had any problems.

We even had that one week here in the NE where temps got in the low 20s. The car started up fine.

I had a battery similar to this in my e46 M3 and it lasted fine for over two years... You just have to be careful with listening to the radio and other power draining activities when the car is off...

Nice find...

It's rated at 200cca. It will test at 380-430cca routinely. It like many mini batteries has a low reserve. No leaving the radio on for an hour with the vehicle off.

It's the same battery as the "braille racing battery" although they will deny it.

You can also find this same battery re-labeled under the "Carquest" brand with the same ETX14 part number.

I called East Penn directly with my questions. I run this battery now in my car.

-Gabe

I made my setup for around $80

More info:

The most common Odyssey PC680 is rated and 680 cranking amps and 220 cold cranking amps.

The Deka/Carquest ETX14 is rated at 400 cranking amps and 200 cold cranking amps.

I tested my battery at work with our standard Midtronics tester:

I have the DEKA ext-14 also for a year but mine is relocated in the trunk. I starts without problem after a month and half of no use in NY winter. Very good battery for the price.

No problem.

I just fabricated the bracket to tie down the battery myself, and reused the factory tray and rods. I had to trim the tray slightly for clearance of the Buschu UICP.

One thing I have read on the Suby forums is that your HIDs will dim a bit when the AC comes on. For this fact I may just get the 15 lb Deka for a little extra umpf. Thanks for all the info.

PS, The Braille Auto Lightweight Battery Mount kit will fit these batteries as well. I've seen them go for about $65-70.00.
