SOrry for the late reply, but you guys are mising the point, First off, the air gets sucked into the intake, then it travels through a 1600 Degree turbo, THEN hits the FMIC to get cooled off.
A cone Filter DOES infact give a great performance gain, but not if it is the only mod, it also needs liek a SAFC and a MBC for a boost increase. for an otherwise stock car, it wouldn't be that great of a mod, but once you start flowing massive boost, you need it, no way arround it.
Plus you do have air channeled through the bottom of the car, and then up through the hood vent, as this is what the car was designed for, PLUS you got a ram air effect, see that BIG vent hol ethingy in the front of the car? Air goes through that while driving.
And IF you think that you are getting ram air on the stock unit, check out the hood as it closes, the weather stripping, blocks it.
I made 15WHP on a K&N with my TSI AWD, this mod is needed and is a first step, and the engine bay IS NOT hot while driving, air is constantly flowing through, at idle it is hot.
This is a great mod and is needed especially with exhaust mods.

I have been measuring my engine compartment with an "exposed air" K-type thermo couple in various spots. The air next to the air-box/intercooler piping to plenum/battery area is the hottest @ 71c while driving on a 42c day! The air going into the stock airbox was ranging between 42-45c at the airbox entrance. Unless you get a cone filter into some cool air, your just sucking a lot of hot air. I do like the photo for the APS unit.
