JDM Tomei 2.2L stroker?

Has anybody heard anything about the Tomei 2.2L kit for the EVO VIII? I was looking at my Hyper Rev and noticed it. It sure looks like a nice kit. Comes with a new crank, rods, and pistons for around 5 grand (500,000 Japanese Funny Money).

I wonder how it stacks up against the JUN kit? I wonder how the extra 2.2L would spool a HKS GT2835?

I never heard of tomei, but jun are great quality parts.
From what I heard lots of 500hp+ evos have jun stroker kits
both cost around 5 grand, I'd stick with jun

Tomei is a BIG TIME tuner and engine builder in Japan. I am thinking that I will just have them build me a 4G63-22 kit for my JDM Evo next year. Heads and all. Mated to an HKS GT turbo kit and a Power FC. With 3" Jic downpipe and Ti exhaust, my motor will be pretty much complete. I will be the "BADEVO" of the boards!

I can't wait.

Andy - you cannot go wrong with either one...nice thing about JUN is as you said, you can have them assemble the motor for you, but it is HUGE dollars....we recently had them do an SR20 for a customer...yowzah!

The TODA kit is a 2.3l is cheapest but the stroke is 100mm. might be hassle for non-race use...
The Tomei is better but if you buy the complete engines...they want you to buy their ecu's as well...because that's what they use for set- up/ fine tuning....
The Jun are the best available now (IMO) but they are the most expensive of the bunch and offer complete engines (upon request) The cost was really high the cheapest basic set-up with the 2.2l kit was 900,000 yen about $8grand
but the guys are really helpful and offer advice and suggestions.

If been to Tomei's shop. They made quality parts. Grind there own cams and cranks. Have 2 engine dyno's. One for RB26DETT and and another for 4G63 and SR20DET. Also make sweet crate engines all setup to drop in and go. Big yeners for those babies. They also showed me their 1200 HP + skyline drag car. Unreal. I plan on running there cams in my EVO

I'd have to agree, Toda is crap. The Tomei and Jun kits are the same quality but tomei is less expensive. I've installed 2 kits and they are wonderful pieces.

Now i wanted to know whats the cost and installion on this? I havent gotten a EVO yet but im getting one within the next couple of months(EVO7). Im trying to do some research on this and i wanted to know. Also i might have find a turbo that i would like to use most likly a GT35R or GT3540R. Now i dont know that much about the 4G63 motor, im from the HONDA camp (yeah yeah) and was just wondering about the block is it a closed deck? would i have to get it sleveed? I was looking around the site and saw i think i saw something about Jun can install the stroker KIT for you? Also so far whats some High HP EVO?

Oh yeha By chance is anyone here running a Full Race Manifold?
If you are, are you aloud AC?

Sorry for jacking you post man.

The common 4g63 turbo's from HKS are the GT2835, and GT3037S. 3540, you will never spool that damn thing up!

High HP Evo's in Japan...5-7 hundred, but that is extreme. I hear that the stock internals will only handle around 400, max.

I am pretty sure that the Evo is closed up. It is cast iron, so it is a strong ***** ****a.

Absolutely it’s closed. The block is one great big lump of steel! Just rebuilt a Honda engine for a customer and I know why you ask the question.

I agree that the stock internals are good to 400hp. I also think that they will take you close to 500 but would not go there as it needs to be all perfect. Too close to failure.
