say someone has an 03-04 non-acd evo and their transfer case goes out. now would be the time to put in a limited slip transfer case. Is it possible to put in an acd transfer case but somehow run it in non-acd mode? that way a limited slip transfer case could be used in a non-acd car. considering how hard it is to find non-acd limited slip transfer cases.

no, i dont believe you can put in the acd transfer case. however, you can swap in the LSD from the ACD transfer case into your non ACD transfer case. thats what i just did this weekend.

not all ACD t cases have LSD's in them, only the RS does and to put one in, you need the pump, engine harness, acd computer, lines from the pump to the t case, and you need to eliminate the intercooler sprayer.

actually, no
ALL ACD transfer cases have LSD in them. That is all 05+ evo's
ALL 04 RS NON-ACD transfer cases have LSD in them

so if I got a non acd transfer case, I could swap the internals out of a limited slip acd transfer case, or better yet, just buy an aftermarket limited slip?

watch out when buying the ralliart LSD. you need to slightly modify the transfer case casing. places like shep do that. another option is the quaife LSD, which is about $500 more than the ralliart.
i bought the carrier assembly (which contains the LSD) from ebay

for a total of $450 shipped. came to me in 4 days. it was a fairly easy swap that took about 3-4 hrs.

i dont know about phantom grip. i have heard about it, but dont know if it works. i think the phantom grip is about $400. why by that when you can get an OEM LSD?

Phamtom Grip is just an LSD insert not a full LSD so you would still have the weak open diff in the car.
