If you guys want to see a good quality video of what a dump tube sounds like, check out this video: http://videos.streetfire.net/recentv...3801707a99.htm

It's a stock turbo STi with a open dump. I know it's an STi, but you get an idea of what it would sound like on the Evo . Turn up your volume for the full effect >:].

I had one of those on my DSM. They have been popular for quite a long time.... but in all honesty I'd never do it again unless I had absolutely used up all other power making options.

They are soooooooo fricken loud and annoying. They sound mean from a distance outside the car but that can be translated into cop magnet as well.

I'm not sure what the claimed HP level is for filling up a 3" exhaust but I know the stock turbo isn't going to do it. I doubt there is much of a gain if any at all.

If I give my car partial throttle, is it going to be annoyingly loud?

2 - It helps the reduce turbulence by keeping the flow seperate

It remains to be seen what kind of gains we see in A - B testing

All I can say at this point is that this is prob the most power I have seen out of any stock turbo on our dyno to date

Only at full boost. Ive never heard someone call the noise annoying until now. In fact, everyone I know with an EVO wants one after hearing mine.

Well, I don't think it's annoying, but it would be annoying if I hit 1 psi, and the damn thing went SHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH @ 25823952 decibels. But I doubt that would happen. Just wanted to ballpark how it would sound with the throttle control so I can drive around town without attracting cops or giving seniors heart attacks.

Is someone going to be producing any of these? I would love to have one these though .

Yeah it only happens when you are at full boost. When you hit your peak boost, the wastegate flapper door opens and bypasses excess exhaust and it will fly out the dump tube to the atmosphere instead of being recirculated back into the 02 housing (into the exhaust stream).

The dump tube does leak some exhaust at idle, right? Can you smell it while you're idling at a light or something?

Have you ever heard one of those WWII piston-engined fighter planes when their engine first fires up? It is kind of a deep, crackling, staccato explosive cacophany? Well, if you were to isolate just one of the audible combustion events coming from one of those stubby exhaust tubes on the flight deck of a WWII aircraft carrier...That would be your sound, more or less. Or have you ever been in a bigrig diesel going downgrade and been spooked by the exhaust brake? It's sorta like that, but just a single brap!

those are external wastegates, not internal ones with open dumps.
