Case Study #403 - EWG on STock Turbo IX
This car came out really well - we may be onto something here
This customer requested us to fabricate a custom 02 housing with the wastegate venting externally into a dump tube
I did not expect much gains - however the results were very impressive
We have no A - B test to compare a before and after as the customer did everything at once
The mods were Buschur Stage III - with some other parts mixed in - see dyno sheet for details
JUST WANTED To note that I never saw the Buschur JDM style exhuast with V band before - its a very slick unit and very different - the muffler goes where the cat is
93 octane with alcky 27 psi
The neat thing about it is the fire ***** which shoot out due to the alchy
The car ran really well on the road - on the dyno its so sensitive you can see the oscilation from the AEM boost controller as its hunting to hold the boost but on the road it just pulls hard and smooth
For those interested The Shop will be making up a batch of these - we are ordering flanges etc as it came out so good we are sure that others will want one

Al, the title is a bit misleading. EWG means external wastegate. He doesnt have an external wastegate. Its merely a dumptube.
I did this last year on my car. JM Fabrications did the welding.
The sound alone is worth it. Let alone the gains. I did not do a before and after dyno, however my butt dyno seems to be very accurate and it definitely felt better!

1 - It in effect makes the exhuast work like a larger one - by opening a seperate passage it gives less back pressure
(interestingly when we tried to run higher boost - thus closing the gate - the car actually lost power. To find peak power we needed to find the sweet spot. The lower your boost - (more flow through flapper) - the more the dump tube is helping)
2 - It helps the reduce turbulence by keeping the flow seperate
It remains to be seen what kind of gains we see in A - B testing
All I can say at this point is that this is prob the most power I have seen out of any stock turbo on our dyno to date

Nice job Al. I wish I had been able to stay longer (I had the black Evo VIII) to watch the tune, but I had to head back home. Can't wait to see this thing in action tomorrow when I get out of work. He told me it pulls crazy on the road.
