Geoff, any thoughts on getting your hands on a turbo like this:

http://www.popularhotrodding.com/eng...4Moran15_z.jpg

Or is this article so dated that turbos like this have already been engineered and are readily available?

Apparently these things are ultra light, high volume low pressure and build of some very trick stuff, for use on champ cars IIRC>...it'd be interesting to see what they are and where they come from...

that looks like a turbonetics y2k drag turbo? Im not sure tho..

most champ cars are required to use a GT4594. This is the small 42R compressor wheel on the big 45R turbine. It offers exceptional response, without huge power.

the comp/turbine wheel technology is really at its peak, its hard to imagine things getting much better.

Hmm, I guess you're right! The article is dated. In it the spoke of all this super high tech indy car turbo stuff, I would imagine that now common technology available to the public has surpassed that.

But what they were implying is that these turbos Mike Moran was planning on using in his 4 turbo setup were Indy car turbos, weighed 8 lbs....etc etc, crazy boost high cfm...

I couldnt find a lick of information to support any of it...

it is possible they were ultra-lightweight due to magnesium compressor housings and thin wall inconel or titanium turbine housings (turbine housing technology like this was very popular in racing duringthe late 70s/early 80s) but it is just too cost prohibitive for a production car, especially one that has windows, 4 seats, etc...

wihle its cool technology, and creative use of materials, for the 15 lbs it saves, you would have at least $5k in custom housings (on the low side) and no real options to swapping housings of different A/Rs out

Geoff, does your manifold have a divided T3 flange and if not, when will the divided T3 be available?

their older manifold is NOT twin scroll (not divided) however from what i understand they will have their new twin scroll manifold with both a T3 and T4 flange turbos... i say this because on the list of turbos you can choose two t3 turbos...

Geoff already stated that the twin-scroll T3 turbine housings are very hard to find right now but that Turbonetics makes an equivalent turbo that is available (or should be soon)

no he didnt ... he said it was hard to find twin-scroll T3 GT35R's at least from Garrett... he is currently doing testing with Turbonetics twin scroll "GT35R" and he believes that is promising..

However on the website it says the turbo kit has the option between: (taken straight from their site)

# Road Race (GT3071R)
# Moderate Power Street (GT3076R)
# High Power Street (GT4088R)
# Drag Racing (GT4094R)

both the GT3071R and the GT3076R are T3 turbos
