So I was removing my turbo and then suddenly...SPARK AND A LITTLE FLAME! What now?
So...
I was removing my stock IX turbo and was in the middle of removing the oil supply line (or oil return line? - the lower metal pipe with a flange / two screws and the coil around it that connects directly to the engine and turbo) when all of a sudden I saw a spark. I was using a screw driver to help guide the oil pipe / line out with the turbo.
I had the car on jack stands and was underneath the car...
Technically there was no flame. It was just GLOWING RED but smoking. It looked like the butt of a cigarette. THANK GOD I had a water bottle right next to me. I threw some water on it, and it went out.
I IMMEDIATELY went and disconnected the battery because the one time my d*m*a*s didn't do it was the time it SHOULD'VE been done. I then checked where the little "glow" was and I honestly couldn't even find it. It was small and the only damage I found looked like the outer protection of some wire was burnt a little. The only other sign of something abnormal was that the batter was VERY hot. I disconnected it completely and still have it cooling on the side of my house.
I was thinking that I possibly hit the starter? Could that be? IDK if it was imagination, but it almost sounded like the car was trying to crank. It was strange...
Could any permanent damage be done to the car or battery? How can I check? Should I attempt to start/drive it after the new turbo is installed? I'm not going to lie; I'm a little nervous to...
Everything seemed perfectly normal except for the burnt surface of the "silverish" cover/wire (with black plastic bulb next to it) and the overheated battery.
Thanks for your time guys...

Check and see if somehow a bolt fell into the top of the starter area and touched the pos. terminal and ground at the same time. Also inspect your return line for any discoloration which would have been caused by heat

I wouldn't worry about it, if it was a spark or what have you, most damage would be electrical but i doubt anything happened, as long as no major physical damage came in to play, start her up, and check for any signs of anyhting..smells or what have you...you should be ok
