Question EVO 8 Alignment

I had my alignment done when I had the tires rotated and now it drives terribly. It vibrates above 60MPH and I get shaking in the steering wheel under hard braking if going more than 60 when I hit the brakes... I suppose that could be a wheel out of balance as well…

I did not realize at first that they used the alignment settings from a standard 2002 lancer with the 15" wheel option and not for an EVO... I called and asked them and they do not have the EVO's setting in their system...

They setup my car with the following:

FRONT:

Left front Camber: -0.7
Right front Camber: -0.6
Right front Caster: 3.4
Left front Caster: 3.6

Right front SAI: 11.3
Left front SAI: 12.7

Left front included angle: 10.0
Right front included angle: 10.7

Cross Camber: -0.1
Cross Caster: 0.2
Total Toe: 0.08

REAR:

Left rear Camber: - 1.1
Right rear Camber: -1.2
Left front toe: 0.04
Right front toe: 0.04
Left rear toe: 0.11
Right rear toe: 0.10

Rear Total toe: 0.22
Thrust angle: 0.00

Does anyone have the factory alignment ranges? I searched the site and found some suggested settings for camber and toe, but no suggested factory ranges that I could offer to this shop...

I saw these setting as the preferred values:

Front Camber: -1.5 (if possible to get this much stock)
Rear Camber: -0.5
Front and rear Toe: 0

I would like to go back to the shop and give them the correct ranges and have them fix it... Any comments on how they set my car up and where I should have them put it? Is it that bad? I have to say it feels like SH*T…

Thanks,

Chris

I really think you'll like these settings... just watch your wear/tire pressures in the front...

This is the factory specs, if you search in the Suspension/Brakes/Wheels forum you will find more info on alignment

Front:
Toe-in mm (in.): 0 +/- 2 ( 0 +/- 0.08)
Camber (Selectable from 2 options): -1deg +/- 30' or -2deg +/- 30' (left/right deviation within 30')
Caster: 3deg55' +/- 30' (left/right devitation within 30')

Rear:
Toe-in mm (in.): 3 +/- 2 (0.12 +/- 0.07)
Camber: -1deg +/- 30' (difference between right and left within 30')

(snip)

I suspect that the problem you are experiencing is purely a wheel balance issue and has nothing to do with alignment. Your final specs are almost exactly what my EVO shipped with, and there are no vibration issues.

I recently changed the alignment to:

F: -1.7 camber, 0 toe
R: factory settings

This is an increase of about 1 degree negative camber in the front, and I couldn't feel a difference on the street. If anything, the steering response dulled slightly, I figure due to less of the sidewall contacting the road, but I dunno.

Yep, i agree with evonick. Sounds like a wheel/tire balance issue, u could take it back to where u got it aligned at and see if they would balance the tires for ya. Maybe the tech knocked off a weight when he rotated your tires. If they won't do it for free, it shouldn't cost much (~20bux).
